The second baptism question:
(2) Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed organization?
George
ok, so earlier this summer at a dc i got to hear one of the gb speak.
he used some odd terminology i had not heard before.
he said this two or three times, so i mentally made note of it.

hi guys.
i know there's a few ebay sellers on here, so sorry for the totally non jw themed post... but.... i am out of work at the moment and the job situation is quite bad here in the uk for it workers so i decided to start selling small items on ebay.
with uk amounts in pounds sterling, this is how selling a 99p item with 91p postage breaks down:.
You may want to have a look at a book in your local library - "Make money on ebay UK" by Dan Wilson. Unlike so many ebay books which are US origin this is by the co-founder of ebay UK and Wilson worked at ebay until recently. He also buys and sells on ebay himself. Quite a good read I thought.
Maybe you could tour local KH's for old books to 'recycle' and sell them to collectors!

thats what samuel herd said yesterday at the dc convention before he went on to say the end of the world was really near.
nobody even noticed anything when he told the audience the new generation understanding but everybody clapped when he presented the new "movie" haha the dubs need entertainment.. also i watched the drama and,... what a bunch of crap that it.
it was my first drama after being awake and what horrid acting it is.
he went on to say the end of the world was really near.
That's true! In fact it's 136 years nearer than it was in 1874!
If they didn't look down on education so much then other JW's may be able to do similar calculations.

i really don't know where the wt is on creative days now, they used to be 7000 years long but now seem to be un-named fudged "thousands of years".
this immediately starts to put the fossil record into a more sane place until you realise that adam ius still believed to be created in c4026 bce.. so we have fossil records going back almost unarguably into geological timescales, oil (from living things) miles below the surface of the earth.
coal (fossilised trees) also far below the surface of the earth but man 6000 years old aprox.. no wonder we aren't hearing much on the creative days.. s f.
St. George, do you know of them ever affirming this in writing within the last 20 years or so?
No, that reference (1987) is the latest I can find which specifically states 7000 years. However I spoke to an elder about this some weeks ago and he said he had written to WTS about the length of creative days and he intimated they had not changed their position.

Not absolutely sure it has been completely abandoned. They now say the earth has been created for millions of years before the creative days began. However I know someone who wrote to the WTS about this and I am trying to get a copy of their reply. The last reference I found of 7000 years is the last one below from 1987.
Even though the actual earth may be millions of years old, having creative days of 7000 years still leaves the problem of coal and oil deposits being formed in just a few (13000) years which is unreasonable.

Mysciencetextbooksaysthattheearthandthesolarsystemhavebeeninexistenceforbillionsofyears. The Bible says that the earth and the rest of the universe were in existence before the first creative day. Thus, the earth and the solar system may well be billions of years old.—Genesis 1:1.
Myteachersaysthattheearthcouldnothavebeencreatedinjustsixdays. The Bible doesn’t state that the six creative days were literal 24-hour periods.

20 Has Jehovah stopped exercising his creative power? Well, the Bible does say that when Jehovah finished his creative work on the sixth creative day, “he proceeded to rest on the seventh day from all his work that he had made.” (Genesis 2:2) The apostle Paul indicated that this seventh “day” is thousands of years long, for it was still ongoing in his day. (Hebrews 4:3-6) But does “rest” mean that Jehovah has stopped working altogether? No, Jehovah never stops working. (Psalm 92:4; John 5:17) His rest, then, must simply refer to the cessation of his work of physical creation respecting the earth. His work of bringing his purposes to fulfillment, however, has continued uninterrupted. Such work has included the inspiration of the Holy Scriptures. His work has even involved the bringing forth of “a new creation,” which will be discussed in Chapter 19.—2 Corinthians 5:17.

The opening words of Genesis, “in the beginning,” reach back billions of years into the past. The events of the six creative “days,” or time periods of special creative works, are described as they would have appeared to a human observer had he been present on the earth. By the end of the sixth day, God created man. Although Paradise is soon lost because of man’s disobedience, Jehovah gives hope. The very first prophecy of the Bible speaks of a “seed” who will undo the effects of sin and bruise Satan in the head.

Second, a study of the fulfillment of Bible prophecy and of our location in the stream of time strongly indicate that each of the creative days (Genesis, chapter 1) is 7,000 years long. It is understood that Christ’s reign of a thousand years will bring to a close God’s 7,000-year ‘rest day,’ the last ‘day’ of the creative week. (Revelation 20:6; Genesis 2:2, 3) Based on this reasoning, the entire creative week would be 49,000 years long.

It is understood that = EVIDENTLY!
i was talking with my wife today about college and i asked her about why the society makes such a big deal about witnesses not going to college.
in typical dub fashion, my wife tells me that they do not discourage college, but they do not encourage it either.
instead, they encourage placing kingdom interests first.. now i told her about you (billy) and how you were at bethel and are now starting college at the age of 40 (i think that is correct).
I went to College on leaving school in 1963. After two years full time study the CO badgered me into leaving rather than complete my final year. He said Armageddon would definitely be here before I finished in a years time and if not within months of my finishing. I was young, stupid and influenced by this idiot and my parents supported his view not mine. Needless to say I bitterly regretted that decision.
I got married in 1970 and with the help of my wife saved money to allow me to go to Uni and get a degree and MSc, a decision we never regretted.
Never let anyone tell you the WTS does not discourage College/Uni! All the decisions I have made in life that were a mistake and that I have come to regret are those when I followed the WTS. All the decisions that have worked out well are when we totally ignored the WTS

i watched the new dvd earlier this week and the speaker at the convention did his presentation about the new understanding of the generation bla bla bla and the overlap of the generation bla bla bla and then presented the new dvd.
but also on the new dvd the overlap and even "the generation" is not mentioned at all.. the dvd is missing very much information and gives disinformation.
my family asked in a choir "was russell not married" when we watched the dvd.. i told them that he was divorced (...).
Not surprisingly they never mentioned anything about Rutherford's 'marriage' either. His wife and son at least get a footnote mention in the Proclaimers book.

Hence, with the approval of the local body of elders, Timothy became an assistant to Paul in missionary activity. — Read Acts 16:1-3.
Where did that come from? I read the account in Acts and listened to the answers but I found no evidence for Paul asking the local body of elders for permission to take Timothy away. Did I miss something or is this a figment of WT imagination?

the other day i was talking to a jw in her 30's and mentioned jonestown and she had no idea what i was talking about.
she had never heard of it.
with all their harping about the dangers of 'false' religion, you would think that jonestown, heaven's gate, and the like would be right up their alley and would be brought up often as examples of why one should never leave the safety of the one true religion.
This was mentioned in another topic a couple of days ago. Several of us in the UK commented that 99.99% of JWs here will have never heard of Jonestown, Kool-aid, etc. WACO is a distant memory.

page 11 quote 'humans, were not created with the ability to determine for themselves what is right and what is wrong'.
so i say satan had to tell them what to do..right or wrong.. let me fill in bold some details on the 2nd qoute.
'what a delusion to believe that the right to choose(select) between good(apples) and bad(rotten apples) means the right to determine(decide) what is good (apples) and what is bad(apples).. i believe these writers are a few bricks short of a full load.. b. .
Also that same mags dealt with deception.Tell me, pray tell when I compare the revelation book 1988 hard copy with the WT CD2009 there are a number of decrepanices or deceptions.
Now that would be an interesting topic!
